The Moore You Know

Welcome to our August wrap-up newsletter. Unfortunately, the last few weeks of summer were largely consumed with heartbreaking images and stories from Afghanistan due to President Biden’s disastrous withdrawal, which stunned the nation - and world. In the wake of this tragic crisis, I’ve joined numerous pieces of legislation and letters to hold the Biden administration accountable for their failures. Additionally, my office has requested assistance for over 250 Americans and allies trapped in Afghanistan.

Back in Alabama, I enjoyed hosting our first The Moore You Know Veteran Workshop and Jobs Fair and meeting some of you at our other public events. Please visit the Events page on our website to stay informed on all of our events in the district.

Sincerely,

Congressman Barry Moore

God Bless Our Troops

From the thousands of troops who served our country in Afghanistan over the last two decades to the thirteen fallen heroes lost a few weeks ago, these men and women represent the best of us. Their sacrifice was not in vain - and their bravery will never be forgotten.

I'm proud to be an original cosponsor for bipartisan legislation that would posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to the thirteen U.S. military servicemembers who were killed in Afghanistan. God bless these young men and women who died for our freedom. I continue to pray for their families during this unimaginably difficult time.

The Moore You Know Veteran Workshop & Jobs Fair

Serving AL02 veterans is one of my highest priorities, and I am so thankful for all those who turned out to make this inaugural event a success. Numerous participants, including Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System, Leidos, VA-Veteran Service Officers, and several employment vendors, were able to provide assistance with a wide range of veteran needs and job opportunities. Veterans were also assisted with best practices for the long, often arduous task of VA Ratings Determination.

Additionally, I honored World War II Veteran Richard “Dick” Schoof for his service during World War II. I was proud to present Schoof with an American flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol, as well as an official copy of remarks submitted to the Congressional Record honoring his service.

Demanding Accountability for Failures in Afghanistan

After thirteen fallen heroes, hundreds of Americans left behind, and billions of dollars of equipment left to the Taliban, it’s time for answers and accountability. At the very least, we must have congressional investigations to uncover the truth surrounding Biden’s failures in Afghanistan.

I proudly joined my House Freedom Caucus colleagues in demanding Speaker Pelosi call Congress back into session to vote on our resolutions to impeach Secretary of State Antony Blinken and call for the resignations of President Joe Biden, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, and General Mark Milley. I’ve also supported numerous pieces of legislation, including a bill that would have prohibited Biden from withdrawing troops until all Americans were evacuated and mandated additional reporting requirements for the withdrawal, including the number of Americans left in the country and cases of the Taliban preventing American citizens and allies from leaving.

Prioritizing Veteran Mental Health

The American people owe a great debt to our veterans, and Congress cannot let them down during this extremely emotional and painful period. That’s why I joined House Veterans’ Affairs Committee (HVAC) Ranking Member Mike Bost and Rep. Greg Murphy, M.D. in sending a letter to HVAC Chairman Mark Takano urging him to reconvene HVAC immediately to conduct a full committee hearing about the implications of President Biden’s catastrophic Afghanistan withdrawal on the mental and emotional well-being of our nation’s veterans.

It’s imperative that we remind our veterans and their families that they are not alone. If you or a loved one need assistance, please find several helpful resources here.

Buffet with Barry

At our latest Buffet with Barry event, I gave a legislative update on my work in Washington and answered tough questions about the future of our nation. It’s always a blessing to connect with folks across AL02.

Did you miss our August events? Don’t worry! We will be hosting more online and in-person events in the future. Please visit theEvents page on our website for updates on upcoming events in the district.

Law Enforcement Roundtable

I enjoyed holding a law enforcement roundtable at Enterprise Community College, featuring over two dozen law enforcement officers from Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, and Houston Counties.

Our law enforcement officers risk their lives every day to serve Alabama’s communities, so it's important for me to talk with them directly to know how I can best advocate for them in Washington. With calls to defund the police and strip their qualified immunity growing louder and the increasing vilification of law enforcement, it's more critical than ever that our men and women in blue have someone fighting for them. I remain totally dedicated to supporting local law enforcement, and I sincerely appreciate all those who attended our panel for an open discussion about how we can keep AL02 safe.
