The last two weeks made clear that Democrats in Washington are in complete disarray. The two wings of Speaker Pelosi’s caucus – the so-called “moderates” and the “progressives” (a deceptive word for “socialists”) – have been battling each other for the soul of the Democratic Party.
Lately, Speaker Pelosi has been siding with the progressives in trying to woo the moderates – a good indicator that progressives are winning the battle.
Our communities depend on law enforcement today more than ever, and backing the men and women in blue remains a longstanding priority of mine. Back in February, I proudly cosponsored and voted for H.R. 1085, which awarded three Congressional Gold Medals to the U.S. Capitol Police for defending the Capitol on January 6. These brave men and women rightfully deserve this accolade after putting their lives on the line to protect the People’s House.
Americans can’t escape the devastating impacts of Biden’s socialist spending spree. From gasoline and lumber to everyday grocery items, prices across the country are on the rise. In fact, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for May accelerated at its fastest pace in nearly 13 years. On top of soaring inflation, monthly job reports continue to miss the mark.
Despite Democrats and the media downplaying the situation at our southern border, the Biden Border Crisis is still raging. Daily encounters are reaching nearly 6,000 individuals - the highest levels of border crossings in over 20 years. Additionally, human smugglers and drug traffickers are growing bolder in the Administration’s absence. In fact, CBP has experienced more fentanyl seizures and children rescue efforts in the first five months of 2021 than all of 2020.
