Rep. Barry Moore votes to provide better tools to border law enforcement

January 30, 2024

Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Barry Moore released a statement after voting in support of H.R. 5585, the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act, sponsored by Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ). This legislation gives law enforcement authorities the necessary tools to punish smugglers and illegals who fail to yield to Border Patrol agents or police officers in high-speed chases. Agent Gonzalez was killed in December 2022 while chasing a group of illegals who had just crossed the southern border.

"Law enforcement deserve the tools to prosecute and punish smugglers and illegals who intentionally fail to yield to them," said Moore. "Thanks to President Biden's radical open border policies, those tools don’t currently exist. I thank my Judiciary Committee colleague, Rep. Ciscomani, for spearheading this legislation which disincentivizes those who choose to evade law enforcement and protects our officers by decreasing the number of dangerous high-speed chases."
