Rep. Barry Moore votes to block illegal aliens from voting in D.C.

February 9, 2023

Washington, D.C. — Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) released the following statement after voting for legislation to protect the integrity of American elections by expressing disapproval toward D.C.’s policy allowing non-citizens to vote. Under Article I of the Constitution, Congress holds exclusive legislative jurisdiction over our nation’s capital, giving it the constitutional and moral obligation to reject the new policy which disenfranchises voters.

“Voting is the most cherished and foundational right of citizenship that only American citizens should hold,” said Moore. “Illegal voting should not be tolerated anywhere in our nation, and this wholesale and systematic scheme the D.C. City Council is advancing is a brazen rejection of the Constitution. Congress must take its obligation to protect voting integrity seriously, whenever and wherever it is at risk, and perform its constitutional oversight duty of D.C. city government.”

On November 21, 2022, the D.C. Council voted to shred the Constitution and passed a bill that allows illegal immigrants to vote in D.C. local elections. The Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act disenfranchises American citizens and could have a ripple effect across other large U.S. cities. Adding to the dangers of this legislation, it makes no exception for foreign nationals or diplomats. This means that representatives from other countries, including agents of the Chinese Communist Party, can vote in D.C. elections.

H.J.Res. 24, which the House passed today, would disapprove of the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act, preventing its implementation.
