Rep. Barry Moore supports bills to protect against Chinese aggression
Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) voted in support of three bills to protect against Chinese aggression: H.R. 1107, H.R. 1154, and H.R. 1189. See more information regarding each bill below.
"President Biden's weakness on the global stage puts our national security in jeopardy,” said Moore. "House Republicans are determined to stop Biden's coddling of China, and these bills are a great building block in the process. They ensure we are starting from a fair place in treaty negotiations, work to combat the horrific trafficking done by the CCP, and prevent foreign adversaries such as China from gaining technological superiority in critical industries."
H.R. 1107, the PRC is not a Developing Country Act, states that it should be United States policy to oppose any treaty that labels the People's Republic of China, a country with the second-largest economy in the world and the largest population, as a developing country. The bill also directs the Secretary of State to pursue changing China's status from "developing" to "upper middle income."
H.R. 1154, the Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act of 2023, states that it is the policy of the U.S. to combat international trafficking for the purpose of removing organs, to promote voluntary organ donation systems in bilateral meetings and international health forums, and to hold accountable those actors engaging in forced organ harvesting, including the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
H.R. 1189, the Undersea Cable Control Act, directs the President, along with the Department of State and the Department of Commerce, to develop a strategy to eliminate the availability of goods and technologies capable of supporting undersea cables to foreign adversaries, according to the Export Control Reform Act of 2018.
