Rep. Barry Moore supports bill to prevent schools from becoming migrant shelters

July 20, 2023

Washington, D.C. — Rep. Barry Moore voted in support of H.R. 3941, the Schools Not Shelters Act, a bill that would allow the Department of Education to withhold funding from schools who use their facilities to shelter illegal immigrants. Recently, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said the city’s shelters were full and that school gyms would be used to house illegal immigrants. Similarly, New York Governor Kathy Hochul plans to house migrants in New York State college dorms.

"Our children should not be forced to pay the price for the Biden Administration's disastrous immigration policies," said Moore. "This legislation would protect kids from having to share their schools with unvetted strangers. We don't allow visitors into our schools without identification, so we also shouldn't allow unvetted migrants in either."
