Rep. Barry Moore rails against Democrats’ egregious attacks on our Constitutional right to bear arms

March 11, 2021

“While Democrats govern from an ivory tower, enjoying the safety and protection of armed members of the military, they’re pushing open borders and anti-gun legislation that’s a direct attack on our constitutional rights to bear arms.”

Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Barry Moore (AL-02) issued the following statement on H.R. 8, the “Bipartisan Background Checks Act”:

“While Democrats govern from an ivory tower, enjoying the safety and protection of armed members of the military, they’re pushing open borders and anti-gun legislation that’s a direct attack on our constitutional rights to bear arms,” said Rep. Moore. “Their ‘rules for thee but not for me’ approach is a slap in the face to law-abiding gun owners and is just another glaring example of Democrats’ dangerous attempts to deprive Americans of their Constitutional freedoms.”

Background: The “Bipartisan Background Checks Act” requires background checks for the temporary transfer of a firearm. Simply handing a gun to another individual could result in penalties of up to one year in prison and/or a $100,000 fine.

Under this legislation, the following situations would now be criminal:

  • Friend loaning a gun to a domestic abuse victim whose abuser made serious threats after recently being released from jail.
  • Hunter checking in a firearm with an airline before boarding a plane for a hunting trip.
  • Farmer lending a gun to a neighbor to euthanize a severely injured horse.
  • Man loaning a firearm to his cousin who fears her newborn baby’s safety following an uptick of burglaries in her neighborhood.
