Rep. Barry Moore presides over House of Representatives for special reading of Constitution

February 7, 2023

Washington, D.C. - Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, was chosen to serve today as Speaker Pro Tempore, the presiding officer of the House of Representatives, during a special reading of the U.S. Constitution before President Joe Biden's State of the Union address to Congress tonight. From the rostrum where Biden will speak, Moore convened today's session of the House and recognized Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (OH-04) to coordinate the special event. Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy began the reading of the full text of the Constitution with the Preamble.

"It was an incredible honor to be chosen to serve as presiding officer of the House on such a historic occasion," said Moore. "There is no better front row seat to witness a celebration of the freedoms we enjoy as Americans, and it was a humbling reminder of how fortunate I am to represent Alabama in our nation's capital and fight to preserve our liberties."
