Rep. Barry Moore opposes bill 'greasing the skids' for wasteful $1.7 trillion spending bill

December 15, 2022

Washington, D.C. — Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) released the following statement after voting against a one-week continuing resolution (CR) that will force lawmakers to vote on a massive $1.7 trillion omnibus funding bill hours before Christmas. Since August, Moore has warned against a lame duck spending bill, including in an op-ed in The Hill.

“The one-week CR is nothing more than a surrender to Democrats that greases the skids for a wasteful $1.7 trillion spending bill next week - which we still have not seen yet,” said Moore. “Instead of rolling over and submitting to retiring and defeated Democrats, Republicans must insist that funding levels are extended past the lame duck session into the new Congress so that the American people can hold accountable the elected officials spending their tax dollars.”

BACKGROUND:

On September 30, a continuing resolution was passed funding the government through December 16. Once again, House Democrats failed to meet the fundamental duty of funding the government despite spending most of the year passing trillions in wasteful spending that has fueled inflation and driven up our debt. This CR extends government funding at current levels through December 23, 2022.
