Rep. Barry Moore: New subcommittee will expose, combat weaponized federal government

January 10, 2023

Washington, D.C. — Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL) released the following statement after the House voted to establish a select subcommittee to investigate the weaponization of the federal government against everyday Americans.

“Our dangerous and entrenched federal bureaucracy has turned a government meant to protect the interests of the American people into a political tool to attack their liberties,” said Moore. “This subcommittee will be at the forefront of Republican efforts to root out arrogant government bureaucrats who believe they know better than the American voters and will trample their constitutional rights in order to advance a political agenda.”

Housed in the Judiciary Committee, the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government will investigate how the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, and other executive branch agencies obtain information from and provide information to the private sector, non-profit entities, or other government agencies to facilitate action against American citizens. The committee will possess sweeping investigatory powers that include access to information shared with the House Intelligence Committee and the authority to review ongoing criminal investigations. Speaker Kevin McCarthy will name 13 members to the panel, including five Democrats, after consultation with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
