Rep. Barry Moore leads letter expressing concern with TSA facial recognition expansion
Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) led a letter joined by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) to Transportation Security Administrator Pekoske expressing concern with TSA's recent expansion of facial recognition technology at 430 airports in the United States. Moore and his colleagues request a written explanation within thirty calendar days of how TSA determined that it should expand this technology.
“Asking every American to consent to a face scan before getting on an airplane is a slippery slope that could pose a significant threat to our privacy and civil liberties,” said Moore. “My colleagues and I want to know more about the reasoning behind TSA's decision so we can ensure these technologies are implemented in a way that balances national security interests with the rights and freedoms guaranteed to American citizens."
