Rep. Barry Moore fights back against Biden’s war on American energy
Washington, D.C. —Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) joined the Restore Onshore Energy Production Act that would require the Biden administration to immediately resume onshore oil and gas lease sales in compliance with the Mineral Leasing Act of 1920. The Mineral Leasing Act of 1920 authorizes and governs leasing of public lands for developing coal, petroleum, natural gas, and other resources. The bill was introduced by Rep. Matt Rosendale (MT-AL).
In January 2021, President Biden imposed a moratorium on federal onshore and offshore lease sales, which the courts subsequently ruled to be illegal. The Biden administration was forced to repeal such actions but still has not issued a single new lease sale to date. The current conflict in Eastern Europe has shed more light on the consequences of relying on foreign adversaries for energy imports, exposing the need for the United States to return to energy independence.
“The Biden administration launched a war on American energy when it imposed an illegal moratorium on federal onshore oil and gas lease sales,” said Moore. “We need to get our nation back to pumping gas immediately, instead of saddling the American people with rising gas prices. America is foreign oil-dependent because of Joe Biden, and I am joining my colleagues in fighting back against Biden for American jobs and energy.”
On September 9, 2019, then-candidate Joe Biden said “I want you to just take a look. I want you to look into my eyes. I guarantee you. I guarantee you, we are going to end fossil fuel, and I am not going to cooperate with them.” Since President Biden began his anti-American energy policies immediately upon taking office, energy prices have been steadily rising, long before Russia invaded Ukraine.
