Washington, D.C. — Rep. Barry Moore attended a lunch today with local veterans at Shane’s Rib Shack in Enterprise. Moore discussed his work for Alabama’s veterans and updated diners on developments in Washington.
“As a veteran, I know those who served our country face unique and significant challenges, and the opportunity to fight on their behalf is why I was called to serve in Washington,” said Moore. “Regularly hearing firsthand from our veterans ensures I remain aware of their concerns and can let them know how my office can serve them.”
Moore is a member of the House Veteran’s Affairs Committee, where he serves as the Ranking Member on the Economic Opportunity Subcommittee. Moore authored the Colonel John M. McHugh Tuition Fairness for Survivors Act, which was passed into law last year. This law expands Dependents Educational Assistance program benefits, requiring GI Bill eligible schools to extend in-state tuition benefits to beneficiaries of the program, bringing the rules for this program in line with the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Col. McHugh’s wife and children reside in Enterprise.
Moore has introduced several other bills to benefit veterans. The Quality Education for Veterans Act of 2022 streamlines the college application process for students seeking to use GI bill benefits and strengthens the integrity of the program. The Simplifying National Guard Eligibility for the GI Bill would expand benefits to all Guardsmen serving under federal active-duty orders, including at the U.S. Capitol and southern border. The Overseeing the GI Bill Act of 2021 would bring accountability to VA’s upgrade of its antiquated system for processing GI Bill claims.
Veterans needing help with the Department of Veterans Affairs are encouraged to contact Moore’s office. |
