Rep. Barry Moore co-leads letter in support of fair trade for cabinet manufacturers

December 12, 2023

Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) and Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) co-led a letter to Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo expressing concerns about domestic cabinet workers facing growing competition from unfairly traded Chinese merchandise being moved through Malaysia and Vietnam to undermine existing anti-dumping orders. Reps. Jerry Carl (AL-01), Mike Rogers (AL-03), Robert Aderholt (AL-04), Dale Strong (AL-05), and Gary Palmer (AL-06) also joined the letter.

"Cabinet manufacturers employ 250,000 Americans and thousands of Alabamians," said Moore. "I thank Rep. Sewell for joining me in this effort to ensure a fair and transparent certification process is implemented, and the continued enforcement of anti-dumping orders keep the playing field level and combat China's unfair trading practices so our American and Alabama cabinet manufacturers can continue to thrive."

“We know that when Alabama workers are given a level playing field, they can compete and win in the global marketplace,” said Rep. Sewell. “While we are grateful to the Department of Commerce for taking steps to protect Alabama’s cabinet manufacturers against China’s illegal trade practices, more must be done to promote fairness and transparency in this industry. By implementing a certification process for foreign producers, the Department of Commerce can ensure that all parties are playing by the same rules.”
