Rep. Barry Moore challenges VA, Biden Administration to focus on serving our veterans

April 19, 2021

“If you served our country, put your health and life at risk, you deserve timely responses and quality healthcare”

Washington, D.C. — Rep. Barry Moore, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity of the U.S. House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs released the following statement challenging the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Biden Administration to focus their efforts on improving services for all veterans, instead of getting caught up in this woke culture of virtue signaling and identity politics.

“This week, the Veterans’ Affairs’ Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity considered fifteen bills, including two of my own and five other Republican proposals. While I may not agree with every proposal, the focus was clear: real solutions to get every veteran the assistance they need. I would encourage the Biden Administration and the VA to focus on the same objective.

“It shouldn’t matter if you’re black, white, brown, gay, or straight. If you served our country, put your health and life at risk, you deserve timely responses and quality healthcare, not for-show virtue signaling that monopolizes resources that should instead be focused on getting rid of the ridiculous backlogs present at the VA,” said Ranking Member Barry Moore.

Background: This week, the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity considered legislation that, if passed, could deliver measurable improvements to the quality of support our veterans receive.

Wednesday, the Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough announced the establishment of a 120-day task force that would conduct a top-to-bottom review of the VA based on identity politics. “The task force is charged with providing concrete and actionable recommendations addressing inclusion, diversity, equity and access” rather than refining the VA’s practices for efficiency and standard of care.
