Rep. Barry Moore calls on Sec. Mayorkas to resign following year of failure & crisis

February 11, 2022

Washington, D.C. —Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) joined his GOP colleagues to send a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas this morning calling on him to resign from his position in President Biden’s Cabinet following a year of crisis and failure at our Southern border, putting millions of Americans in danger.

Under Mayorkas’ leadership, the Remain in Mexico Policy is being largely ignored, despite court orders to restore the program. Border apprehensions have more than tripled over FY 2020, while deportations have dropped by 70%. Additionally, FY 2021 saw over 100,000 fentanyl overdose deaths, the first time that many have been recorded in a single year. Border agents apprehended over 11,000 pounds of fentanyl at the border in FY 2021.

“In the last year, Sec. Mayorkas leadership – or lack of – has fueled illegal immigration into our nation at never-before-seen levels. Our nation is facing the worst border crisis we have ever seen as a direct result of his and President Biden’s failures,” said Rep. Barry Moore. “Biden’s administration inherited a border from President Trump that had undergone remarkable security upgrades but has since squandered it with his open-border policies. Sec. Mayorkas has prioritized illegal immigrants over American citizens. He has failed our nation and failed the American people. Secretary Mayorkas has failed, and he must resign.”
