Rep. Barry Moore Becomes Original Co-Sponsor of the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act
‘All life is precious and worth saving.’
Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Barry Moore (AL-02) became an original co-sponsor of the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This legislation requires medical care for babies who survive abortion procedures and imposes strong criminal penalties for failure to provide such care.
“No matter the circumstances, all life is precious and worth saving,” said Moore. “Refusing life-saving medical care to a newborn child is unconscionable. I will continue to fight for these vulnerable babies, and I promise to protect the sanctity of life.”
Background: This legislation builds upon the bipartisan Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002, which clearly defined infant survivors of abortion as persons. Unfortunately, the legislation fell short of ensuring essential medical care for those vulnerable newborns. The Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, sponsored by Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO), requires medical professionals to provide this lifesaving care and imposes fines or up to five years in prison on those who refuse to do so. Additionally, this bill promotes the rights of women and the dignity of motherhood by providing legal protections to the mothers of abortion survivors.
