The Moore You Know: Supporting anti Chinese communist legislation, honoring Laken Riley, and bringing transparency back to Congress
The Moore You Know
Welcome to our March wrap-up newsletter!
It has been a busy month here in Washington, D.C. If you would like to stay updated on what I'm doing each week, I encourage you to check out my Facebook and Twitter!
If you need help with a federal agency, such as the VA, IRS, or Social Security Administration, please call my office at the numbers listed below or visit my website so we can get to work on your behalf!

Highlights

Supporting strong anti-CCP legislation
This month, I joined my colleagues Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman Kevin Hern (R-OK) and RSC National Security Task Force Chairman Joe Wilson (R-SC) as a co-sponsor of the Countering Communist China Act . This bill is a big win for Americans because it sanctions Chinese officials for trafficking fentanyl into the U.S., curtails trade with China, restricts outbound investments in Chinese technology companies, promotes democracy for Chinese citizens, and more. This is the strongest legislation against the CCP in history, and passing it is imperative so that we're better prepared to protect American innovation and independence. |

Making the federal government so small it’s not worth corrupting
It is always a pleasure to meet with my Sunset and Repeal Caucus co-chair and colleague, Congressman Michael Cloud, to discuss our goal of making the federal government so small that it’s not worth corrupting and getting rid of outdated and wasteful laws!

Justice for Laken Riley and the victims of violent illegal aliens
We owe it to Laken Riley, her family, and the many other victims of crimes that illegal aliens with criminal convictions have caused. It's time to put an end to these tragedies, which is why I voted in favor of the Laken Riley Act. This legislation, in honor of her life, would require Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain illegal immigrants who are charged with local theft or burglary.

Serving AL-02 with the best policy staff
It is a blessing to welcome two experienced policy staffers to my D.C. team to serve the people of Alabama's Second Congressional District. Christian Gentile (on the right), an Alabama native and resident of Orange Beach, was formerly a Legislative Assistant for Rep. Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma. Gentile will be handling budget, science, space and technology, defense, transportation and infrastructure, and Veterans' affairs for my office. Marshall Macheledt (on the left), will lead my legislative team, he formerly served as a Senior Legislative Assistant for Rep. Jim Jordan, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, of which I currently serve as a member. Macheledt's portfolio will include crime and law enforcement, election security, FEMA, oversight, and Second Amendment issues for my office.

Calling for appropriations transparency
When Congress considers bills that spend billions and trillions of taxpayer dollars, the American people deserve to know the truth about what is in those bills. I recently joined my friend and colleague, Rep. Glenn Grothman, as a co-sponsor of his bill, the Appropriations Transparency Act. This legislation amends the Congressional Budget Act to remove the exception from appropriations bills receiving scores from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

Announcing the 2024 Congressional Art Competition winner
Congratulations to Neo Minjoon Choi, a junior at Pike Road High School, who was the winner of the Congressional Art Competition for Alabama's Second District. Every spring since 1982, the Congressional Institute has sponsored the Congressional Art Competition for high school students.
The contest is an opportunity for Members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved in the nationwide competition.
Thank you to our judges and every student who submitted their wonderful art!

Opposing another massive $1 trillion spending package
This month, I voted against another monstrous 1,012-page, $1.2 trillion swamp spending package. The text of this legislation was released at 2:00 AM on a Thursday, only giving members a little more than 24 hours to review it before voting on the bill. House Democrats supported this legislation, which does not include H.R.2 provisions to secure our southern border, and I once again could not support another round of reckless spending packages.

My bill to deport illegals who drive drunk moves to the Senate
Earlier this month, Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) introduced the Senate version of my bill, the Protecting Our Communities from DUIs Act. I am proud to join Senator Hagerty in protecting American families from tragedies that occur at the hands of illegal immigrants by deporting illegal immigrants who have been caught driving impaired.

Opposing the TikTok ban
This month, I voted against H.R. 7521, a bill that would functionally ban TikTok unless they sell their U.S. operations to a competitor within 180 days—except that this type of approach can infringe on the free speech rights of millions of Americans and negatively affect more than five million small businesses by going after TikTok instead of the problem at hand. Congress needs to protect the privacy of our young people and restrict data transfers from foreign adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party, not companies.
