The Moore You Know Newsletter: April 2021
The Moore You Know
Welcome to our April wrap-up newsletter. From additional spending proposals to D.C. Statehood, we’ve definitely had our hands full in Washington.
Back in Alabama, we visited several incredible organizations and held productive town halls. We also had the opportunity to give our D.C. staff the Alabama experience during our first Team Moore staff retreat
Sincerely,
Congressman Barry Moore
HIGHLIGHTS

Opposing D.C. Statehood
All Americans deserve adequate representation without creating a disparity of power among states. We can achieve a common-sense solution to ensure fair representation, which is why I’m proud to support legislation that returns D.C. back to Maryland.

Team Moore Staff Retreat
We enjoyed hosting our first Team Moore staff retreat this month! It was great to have both our DC and District staff together for a fun and productive week filled with discussing creative ways we can best serve AL02. From skeet shooting to touring downtown Enterprise, we all had a blast!
Helping Our Heroes’ Families Reach Higher Education Goals
I’m proud to introduce the Col. John McHugh Tuition Fairness for Survivors Act, which will secure critical in-state tuition benefits for dependents and survivors of eligible veterans. In 2010, U.S. Army Colonel John McHugh made the ultimate sacrifice for this nation when he was killed in action by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. Like many Americans, he dreamed of building a better life for his family, and we owe it to his family and millions of Americans in their situation to help realize this dream.
I'm honored to lead this bipartisan effort to get these families the long-overdue support they deserve.
Supporting Keep the 9 Legislation
I find the recent proposal to expand the U.S. Supreme Court from 9 to 13 Justices incredibly troubling. It is essential that our nation’s highest court maintains its integrity and independence.
I’m proud to co-sponsor legislation that would keep the Court at its current nine Justices.

Wetumpka Opening & Town Hall
Our Wetumpka office is officially up and running! After the reception, we held a productive town hall filled with great questions about the future of our nation.
Please reach out to our office if we can help you or your family in any way.
Thanking Our Spring Interns
Over the last few months, we’ve had two fantastic interns assisting our office in Washington. Both Thomas and Dave did excellent work and served the people of Alabama’s Second Congressional District well.

Ride Along on Lake Martin
I really enjoyed the opportunity to ride along with State Troopers on Lake Martin, and I’m thankful for all they do to keep Alabamians and our waterways safe!

Visiting Children’s Harbor
This month, I visited Children’s Harbor at Lake Martin, where they provide a place of comfort and fun to seriously ill children and their families. I truly enjoyed learning more about their services and the incredible work they do to assist families across Alabama.

Tallassee Town Hall
We had a great turnout at our Tallassee Town Hall! I always appreciate getting to hear directly from my constituents about what keeps them up at night, like funding for rural hospitals or helping our farmers. We’re thankful Mayor Hammock hosted such a successful event, and I look forward to working with him to serve our constituents.

Wiregrass Electric Cooperative’s Youth Leadership Conference
I joined Sen. Donnie Chesteen, Rep. Paul Lee, and Rep. Jeff Sorrells at Wiregrass Electric Cooperative’s Youth Leadership Conference, where we answered thoughtful questions from students representing schools across Houston and Geneva counties. It’s great to see our youth involved and eager to learn!

Meeting with Brundidge City Officials
I enjoyed a wonderful lunch with the outstanding city officials of Brundidge last week. I’m thankful for Mayor Boyd for hosting a constructive event and for presenting me with a key to the city! I look forward to working with all of our local officials to best serve the great people of Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District.
