The Moore You Know September 3 - 16, 2022

President Biden and Democrats seem utterly unaware of the pain most Americans are feeling from inflation and the economic turmoil caused by their disastrous policies from Washington. Days ago, they threw a lavish White House party to celebrate their falsely named “Inflation Reduction Act,” complete with a performance of “Fire and Rain” from James Taylor. It was painfully ironic to watch the event on television overlaid with updated economic indicators showing the Consumer Price Index rose 8.3% and the stock market was having its worse day in over two years. On top of the record high inflation, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office updated their analysis of the Inflation Reduction Act to reflect that the legislation will increase the deficit further through 2026. So don’t expect any help from Democrats soon. For the American people, the only fire and rain will be in your 401K.

It isn’t just economic pain that the Biden administration is inflicting. The Department of Veterans Affairs has created a new rule that provides abortion services through the VA healthcare system. I joined a letter led by Reps. Andrew Clyde and Michael Cloud to Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough demanding he immediately rescind this rule. It is outrageous that the VA is using taxpayer dollars to conduct abortions, violating decodes of precedent. The VA is supposed to be focused on caring for our nation's veterans, and it can’t even handle the pending cases for thousands of veterans in our district. Congress must hold the administration accountable, and this rule should be ended immediately.

Funding the government is Congress’s most fundamental duty, but this year, Congress will once again fail to pass appropriations bills before the end of the fiscal year. Instead, the Democrat-led Congress will pass what is called a continuing resolution, or CR, to extend current spending levels. At the moment, Democrats plan for the CR to run until the lame-duck session of Congress – after the November elections but before newly-elected (and very possibly Republican) majorities take over. That way, they can pass a spending bill that bypasses accountability to the American people. I joined my House Freedom Caucus colleagues in asking Republicans to say no to a lame-duck continuing resolution and to insist on a CR that runs into the next year. Republicans will gladly accept the responsibility – and accountability – that comes with spending your tax dollars.

During the long August recess and eleven town halls I held, I talked with hundreds of you about your concerns, and it reminded me of why I am so fortunate to do what I do. One of the most important duties I have is assisting constituents who need help navigating the federal bureaucracy. If you are having an issue with Social Security benefits, veterans’ services, passports, or any other federal matter, please stop my one of my district offices in Wetumpka, Dothan, or Andalusia. Our Constituent Advocates also travel throughout the district every month to hold Mobile Office Hours in counties that do not have a district office. We’ve resolved over 1,600 cases since I took office last year, and I’d love to help you too. Please call 334-478-6330 or visit barrymoore.house.gov if we can be of assistance.
