It is my honor to earn another two years representing Alabama’s Second Congressional District. Thank you! I’d also like to congratulate my new colleagues Dale Strong, who will represent Alabama’s 5th Congressional District, and Katie Britt, who will represent our state in the Senate. The Wiregrass should be proud to have one of our own in the Senate. With elections in our state behind us, all eyes must turn toward the Democrat mission to advance a lame-duck spending bill amid rampant inflation. The massive $728 billion Democrat bill goes towards wasteful initiatives like Department of Defense programs focused on climate change and woke ideology instead of recruitment and readiness. And it continues to fund mandates that will force service members to choose between their livelihood or taking the COVID vaccine, even as the Army, Navy and Marine Corps all miss their fiscal year recruiting goals. The Republican plan to help build back our economy begins by doing all we can to halt the Democrat attempt to force through runaway spending and woke ideology without accountability.

Each Veteran's Day, we come together to honor our nation's heroes. As a member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee and a veteran myself, I have seen firsthand the dedication of our service members and their families. I am proud to say my first bill passed into law was the “Colonel John McHugh Tuition Fairness for Survivors Act." This legislation requires GI Bill eligible schools to extend instate tuition benefits to beneficiaries of the Dependents Educational Assistance Program. In September, I held a Veterans Affairs Committee Field Hearing with community and federal stakeholders at Enterprise State Community College to discuss how we can improve the transition from military to civilian life. I also recently hosted a Veterans Healthcare Fair in Wetumpka, where my staff and other vendors were on hand to assist veterans and their families with healthcare issues. I look forward to holding more veterans' events in the future and finding new ways to help our veterans in the next Congress.

As I traveled the district holding town halls in October, I also had the privilege of talking to hundreds of elementary, middle, and high school students. These kids are the lifeblood of our district and having the chance to talk with them reminds me how much God has blessed this nation. They are full of great questions about how our government works and ideas for how it can be improved. I look forward to visiting more schools to hear from students in the new year.
