The Moore You Know November 10th - December 5th, 2022
The fentanyl crisis fueled by our wide-open southern border is one of the greatest threats facing our nation, yet President Biden continues his policies fanning the flames. I led a letter to the President cosigned by several of my colleagues criticizing President Biden for his administration’s lack of action stopping fentanyl from pouring through our southern border and pledging to oppose any FY2023 appropriations package unless immediate action is taken to strengthen and restore the integrity of the southern border and protect the American people, especially our children, from deadly fentanyl. The letter outlines several steps President Biden can take, including resuming construction on President Trump’s border wall, restoring border policies that President Biden axed in the early days of his presidency, and concrete steps supporting law enforcement. The American people’s tax dollars should be used to protect their interests, not wasted on woke projects at the expense of border security and American safety.

In August, I led a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin bringing to his attention troubling concerns regarding the unfair treatment of military personnel which has dramatically impacted force readiness. At the time, the Centers for Disease Control had recently released an updated set of guidelines making little to no distinction between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated. Our letter to Secretary Austin asked if military vaccination mandates were still updated based on the latest science. Unfortunately, Secretary Austin never responded to our letter. I have led another letter with several of my colleagues asking him to answer our original letter. Healthy, patriotic men and women are being kicked out of the military for refusing the vaccine, and many more are refusing to join the ranks, and our recruitment targets are being missed by margins that threaten our military readiness. The American people deserve an answer on this.

I am excited to announce that my bipartisan bill with Rep. Mike Levin passed the House of Representatives. The Mark O’Brien VA Clothing Allowance Act simplifies the process for veterans with service-connected conditions to receive the clothing allowances they deserve. This legislation now goes to the Senate, and I am hoping they act fast before the end of this Congress to get this bill sent to the President and signed into law.
