This time of year, with schools letting out, many families traditionally go on vacations and travel to see friends and loved ones. Unfortunately, outrageously high gas prices are forcing many American families to reconsider their plans. Across Alabama, gas prices are well over $4 and will continue to rise over the summer months. President Biden's anti-American energy agenda impacts every single American, but there are many steps we could be taking to ease the pain. First, we must end the federal freeze on oil and gas leases. Next, we should fast-track pending LNG export permits and expedite approval of all pipeline and energy development. Finally, Biden must stop the regulatory assault on American energy development and financing that is engineered to shut down domestic energy. No one has been hit harder by energy prices than our farmers. In Alabama today, a gallon of diesel gas is an astonishing $5.36. But that’s not all. Tractor parts, equipment, feed, and other inputs all cost more for our farmers today. As production costs rise for farmers, American families will suffer through higher prices on shelves.

When the House is out of session, I get to travel across our district and meet with the people I serve to hear their concerns directly. I enjoy visiting schools, businesses, and diners, and the many other opportunities I have to learn more about our district. Recently I was able to visit Sav-A-Life in Troy. Sav-A-Life is pregnancy resource center that assists anyone facing an unplanned pregnancy, youth making relationship decisions, and women in need of healing. This is incredibly important work, and more people should know their services are available. Every life is important, and I’m glad to know that folks out there are working for unborn children and their families.

As a veteran and a small business owner, I know our veterans have unique experiences and skillsets that often fit perfectly with the demands and opportunities of being a franchisee. I also feel strongly about doing all we can to help veterans adjust to life after their service. Recently, I had the privilege of introducing a resolution honoring the 30th anniversary of VetFran, a non-profit initiative through International Franchise Association to educate both veterans and franchisors about the unique match between the skills and aptitude of entrepreneurial veterans and the demands and opportunities of being a franchisee. This program has helped many veterans and their families get a leg up, and I appreciate the work they are doing to turn veterans into small business owners. *** Don’t forget, my staff and I are here to serve you. If you need help with Social Security benefits, veterans’ services, passports, or any other federal matter, please let us know. I have staff in my district offices in Wetumpka, Dothan, and Andalusia who can help you. Please call 334-478-6330 or visit barrymoore.house.gov if we can be of assistance.
