The Moore You Know May 19 - June 2, 2023
It’s no secret that Washington bureaucrats have a spending problem. The last time the United States had a balanced budget was more than 20 years ago, and with a national debt of $31 trillion and growing, a balanced budget seems more and more like a foreign concept. I won’t pretend to be a mathematician, but there’s one thing I do know: if we want to balance the budget, we have to spend less.
The Republican Limit, Save, Grow Act was a monumental step toward eliminating our national debt while avoiding default. This legislation saved $4.8 trillion taxpayer dollars, returned spending to pre-COVID levels, clawed back more than $50 billion in unused COVID funding, and fired Biden’s army of 87,000 IRS agents all while protecting social security and veterans’ benefits. While Biden and the Democrats were refusing to negotiate, Republicans passed a bill that accomplished massive spending reforms.
Thanks to Biden and the Democrats’ refusal to rein in out-of-control spending, we ended up with the so-called “Fiscal Responsibility Act” instead. This legislation keeps 98 percent of Biden’s increased funding for additional IRS agents and audits, only reclaims $28 billion in unused COVID funds, upholds Biden’s student loan bailout, and adds $4 trillion to our national debt. I voted against this massive disappointment. This week, it passed out of the House of Representatives with 117 members opposed.
My staff and I heard from many Alabamians this week who share my concerns. If we truly want to protect our children and grandchildren from being saddled with $31 trillion in debt, much of it belonging to China, our gravest geopolitical foe, we must stand up to the Biden Administration and call for stronger reforms. The American people deserve a deal that delivers real spending reform to put our country back on track.

Since President Biden took office, his Environmental Protection Agency has been after the property rights of rural Americans with their Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. Earlier this year, I signed a letter and joined a resolution opposing Biden’s overreaching WOTUS rule. Last week’s unanimous Supreme Court ruling in Sackett v. Environmental Protection Agency was a resounding victory for farmers, ranchers, foresters, and landowners and a blow to Biden’s wealthy environmentalist base. This Supreme Court ruling makes it clear that Biden should rescind his unconstitutional rule immediately.
