The Moore You Know July 9 - 22, 2022

Instead of addressing the problems Americans are facing, Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats are using the House floor to score political points. That was made clear recently when the House voted on the Active Shooter Alert Act of 2022 (H.R. 6538), a bill Democrats claimed would make Americans safer, but in reality, it is an anti-gun propaganda program designed to inflate the reported number of “active shooter” incidents and expand support for unconstitutional gun control measures. If Democrats were serious about keeping Americans safe, they would address the crime epidemic that is exploding on their watch in communities across our country. Expanding the power of government and creating more bureaucratic positions won’t solve the problems created by defunded police departments and soft-on-crime politicians and prosecutors.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is intended to set policy for our nation’s defense, but Democrats used the NDAA this year to advance their radical agenda. The 2023 NDAA would harm our national defense by allowing the Biden Administration’s unconstitutional COVID vaccine mandate to move forward, leading to the discharge of over 60,000 soldiers. This comes at a time when every branch of our military is struggling to meet recruitment goals, a problem quickly becoming national security crisis. The bill also allows woke curricula like Critical Race Theory (CRT) to continue being forced upon our military. How effective can our military be if it is taught that our nation’s enemies are not abroad but the systemic evils within our own citizens and military? Our men and women in uniform have sworn to protect our interests on the world stage and protect our way of life. The military should not be a platform for woke social experiments. With our enemies seeing blood in the water due to Biden’s weakness, this is the worst possible time to neglect our true defense needs. I am hopeful the NDAA will be improved by the Senate before being passed into law.

It has been a busy and productive period for the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. I traveled to San Diego, my Economic Opportunity Subcommittee colleague Mike Levin’s congressional district, for a field hearing on ensuring our veterans and their families have food security. It was beneficial for us to hear from experts and discuss how to solve this problem. The House also passed the PACT Act, a bill to connect veterans who were exposed to burn pits or other dangerous toxins in service to our country with the healthcare and benefits they have earned. A bill helping with this issue has been decades in the making, and I’m glad we were able to get this across the finish line. *** From the day I took office, my staff and I made it our priority to assist constituents with federal casework. We’ve now resolved over 1,500 cases, and we aren’t slowing down. If you need help with Social Security benefits, veterans’ services, the IRS, passports, or any other federal matter, call 334-478-6330 or visit barrymoore.house.gov.
