Most politicians in Washington spend more time listening to political consultants than the people they represent, but I am committed to being as accessible and transparent as possible with my constituents. This month I’m beginning a district-wide town hall tour to hear directly from Alabamians about issues that matter to them. Congress has a lot of work to do to win back the trust of the American people, and I believe we should have four priorities: a strong economy, safety and security, freedom for future generations, and accountability in government. I hope you’ll check out the events page on my website and attend the nearest town hall to you. I’ll be adding additional town halls soon for the month of October.

I voted against the unconstitutional assault weapons ban that passed the House recently. The Second Amendment is clear that the right to bear arms shall not be infringed, and chipping away at that right is part of an effort by the radical anti-gun Left to eliminate it altogether. Make no mistake, anyone willing to steal one of your rights would take away all of them. Without the Second Amendment, all the other rights guaranteed by the Constitution would be in danger, and I am completely committed to fighting efforts to destroy it.

As the Lead Republican on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity, I enjoyed hosting a field hearing on servicemember transition in Southern Alabama with my counterpart, Chairman Mike Levin (D-CA) at Enterprise State Community College. Ensuring that service members have the tools to successfully transition from the military into civilian life is important to me and a priority for our committee. I will continue reviewing the transition assistance program and talking with our veterans to learn what works and what doesn’t so we can meet the needs of those who have served our country.

Inflation is at record highs, and the primary cause is unprecedented levels of overspending by the federal government. But Democrats are doubling down on dumb with their new reconciliation bill, shamefully called the Inflation Reduction Act despite authorizing nearly three quarters of a trillion dollars in new inflation-fueling spending. Much of this bill will be wasted on Green New Deal programs that are giveaways to the radical environmental left. This is the wrong direction to take our country, and the American people will make their voices heard.
