The Moore You Know January 28 - February 10, 2023
President Biden may think the state of our union is strong, but under the Biden administration, our nation is broke, woke, and an international joke. As his State of the Union address to Congress made clear, he is more focused on increasing the power of Big Government than addressing the concerns of working Americans and families. Biden barely gave lip service to the border crisis, historic inflation, record crime, skyrocketing energy costs, and our collapsing geopolitical standing instigated by his weak diplomacy and foreign policy blunders – most recently, allowing a Chinese spy balloon to traverse the continental United States. He did not outline a plan to address our economic struggles or the porous border allowing fentanyl into our communities, nor speak meaningfully about our continued subsidization of the war between Russia and Ukraine. The American people deserve to know what the Biden administration will consider ‘success,’ and how we will get there.

The House Judiciary Committee held its first hearing of the 118th Congress on the Biden border crisis. I was honored to take part and be chosen by Chairman Jim Jordan to chair portions of the hearing. Our witnesses revealed the extent that criminal cartels not just profit, but effectively run our open border, as well as the human cost suffered by border residents, individuals and families of those smuggled or trafficked by the cartels, and Americans in communities all over the nation being impacted by deadly fentanyl coming across the border. As one of our witnesses, an Arizona sheriff, vividly detailed, law enforcement does not have the resources necessary to do their jobs, and policies from this administration are purposefully hampering their ability to enforce the law. Make no mistake, President Biden owns this border crisis.

Last month I joined several colleagues on the House floor to speak about the hardships many veterans and their families are facing with Tricare. The negotiations between Express Scripts on behalf of the Department of Defense and independently owned pharmacies is leading to it being prohibitively difficult for veterans to get the prescriptions they need. This is unacceptable, and I have been vocal on the need for the DOD to step up and resolve this issue. As one constituent told my office, our veteran population loves our country, but too often it seems like our country does not love them back. Our government must treat our veterans better.
