The Moore You Know January 14-27, 2023

Last year during my county-by-county town hall tour, many constituents shared their concerns for our country, and I was struck by how many of these issues fell into the jurisdiction of the Judiciary Committee. So, it was an honor to be asked by Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan to serve, and I’m excited to announce I have been appointed to this powerful committee for the 118th Congress. We have a big task ahead of us. We will investigate the Biden border policies that created the current crisis, a politically weaponized Department of Justice and FBI, the business dealings of Hunter and Joe Biden, our disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, and the origins of COVID-19 and our government’s response, particularly Dr. Fauci.

One of the first priorities for our committee will be the border crisis. As I wrote recently in the Washington Examiner, Biden’s rhetoric on the border has not matched his record. Under Biden, we’ve seen over 4,282,214 known illegal border crossings and 119 terrorism suspects cross into our country. Stunningly, an estimated 196 Americans are now dying each day from fentanyl, which is being trafficked across the border at unprecedented levels. Our committee is committed to holding Biden and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas accountable for their abysmal performance. Republicans also are proposing solutions. As part of the deal House Freedom Caucus members negotiated with leadership, the House will vote on a border security package assembled by Texas Republicans. This bill beefs up physical security at the border, including a wall. It ensures local law enforcement has the tools to do its job and ends destructive policies like “catch and release.” Additionally, this legislation targets the cartels and criminal organizations which currently possess operational control of our southern border.

Few Americans have taken it on the chin harder from President Biden’s policies than our farmers. But on top of the energy and inflation crisis they are facing, new unnecessary and expensive European Union testing requirements are hammering our domestic peanut producers by depressing their overseas markets. No one has more to lose or gain by ensuring American peanuts are safe than American farmers, and they have a long history of producing a high-quality product. That is why I wrote a letter to the Department of Agriculture and the US Trade Representative expressing my concerns and asking that the government work with industry stakeholders to negotiate fair testing protocols. I was glad to have twelve of my colleagues join my letter.
