The Judiciary Committee held an explosive field hearing at the southern border exposing its many dangers, not just for the American people but those seeking to cross it illegally. The Democrats on our committee chose not to participate, but those of us who did saw firsthand the astonishing disaster President Biden’s policies have created. Our hearing witnesses confirmed that migrants from over 100 countries, including China and Russia, are paying up to fifteen thousand dollars apiece to be smuggled across our border by criminal cartels. An Arizona Sheriff confirmed that Biden’s policies are creating slaves and drug mules – if you can’t pay the thousands of dollars to cross, you have to work off your debt to the cartel. Does this sound “compassionate” to you? President Biden must answer for the tens of thousands of fentanyl deaths, the 5 million encounters under his administration, the 20,000 unaccompanied children we've lost, and so many other tragic consequences of the border crisis he created. *** The right to bear arms was so important to our founders that it was listed second in our Bill of Rights, but to some, it is seen as a second-tier right. Some in the federal government support taking this constitutional right away entirely. I’ve got news for you. Any government that would take away one right would take away them all. That’s why I introduced the AR-15 National Gun Act at a press conference at Family Firearms in Troy. This bill would simply designate the AR-15 as the National Gun of the United States. My legislation expresses support for protection of the Second Amendment and sends the message that all our constitutional rights, including those protected by the Second Amendment, must be preserved. *** President Biden declared war on American energy on the day he was sworn in, and predictably, energy costs have skyrocketed as our domestic supply was restricted. In a weak attempt to soften the blow on American families, Biden has relied on band-aids like drawing from our emergency reserves or begging other nations to produce, but that is not sustainable or effective. These anti-American energy policies must not continue. I introduced a resolution supporting domestic energy production to remind Biden this is a matter of national security and quality of life. Biden must support the safe and responsible development of American energy resources. *** I am committed to serving my constituents, so I am proud to have recently held the grand opening of my new Congressional office in Troy.
