The Moore You Know Column February 19 – March 4, 2022
President Biden’s State of the Union speech was a confusing and often contradictory dialogue that seemed to take place in an alternate reality. He refused to take responsibility for any of the crises at home or abroad or offer real plans to address them. The President took a victory lap on Ukraine even as Russian troops prepared to invade Kyiv. He vowed to fight the historic inflation currently plaguing Americans with even more government spending. He claimed that Americans now returning to work after being forced home by Democratic policies somehow meant record job creation. He offered empty words about immigration reform without pledging to build a wall or reverse President Trump’s border policies Biden canceled on Day 1 of his administration. There was more hypocrisy. President Biden remarkably claimed he now supports funding the police after spending months supporting woke “defund the police” rioters and demonizing law enforcement. He offered platitudes about buying America products while he continues to cozy up to China. And he decried high energy prices while refusing to take one meaningful step to unleash American energy independence. In short, this was a long lecture full of speechwriter spin, misplaced blame, and poll-tested messaging but without any real plan.

I refused to attend Biden’s State of the Union address. In addition to the ridiculous COVID testing restrictions, I am incredibly irritated that Speaker Nancy Pelosi once again erected an iron fence around the Capitol building to the tune of $1 million of your tax dollars. The Capitol is the People’s House. It does not belong to me, or President Biden, or Speaker Pelosi, but you. We need to open the Capitol to the American people and not restrict access to exclusive elites. If Speaker Pelosi wants to build a wall, she needs to start at our southern border.

Many of you have reached out to my office regarding a letter I joined recently with over 200 of my colleagues. This bipartisan letter asked the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to look into the policies of certain nurse staffing agencies that are accused of inflating prices and taking 40% or more of the profits charged to the hospitals for themselves without passing them to nurses. Let me be clear – this letter does not impact nurse salaries. It merely asks the FTC to review the practice of staffing agencies. Our frontline workers are heroes, and I will continue to fight for them.

My staff works every single day to help constituents with the VA, IRS, Social Security Administration, and other federal agencies, and we have already resolved over 900 cases in under 14 months. If we can help you too, please call my office and we will do all that we can.
