The Christmas gift that nobody wants: Tickets to the CR circus
This Christmas season, the D.C. swamp is back with its usual gift: the government funding fight. While the last 1,500-page disaster of a continuing resolution (CR) has been defeated thanks to the tireless efforts of true patriots who stood firm against reckless spending, Democrats and their Uniparty allies are still clinging to the same broken playbook of stuffing the CR stocking with woke, weaponized, and wasteful spending requests when they think no one is looking.
CRs are not governance... they’re dysfunction wrapped in shiny paper. They keep the same bloated government programs funded while punting real debates and decisions into the future. These short-term measures are nothing more than Band-Aids, slapped over the gaping wound of fiscal irresponsibility. And the cost? The next generation is saddled with debt while the bureaucracy continues to grow unchecked.
Let’s call this what it is: a swampy tradition. For years, Democrats have relied on CRs to avoid accountability and transparency. Instead of crafting responsible budgets, these stopgap measures are dumped on lawmakers at the last minute, packed with wasteful spending and backroom deals. Worse, they use critical programs—like disaster relief and farm aid—as bargaining chips to try and force compliance.
Thanks to the leadership of President Trump, Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, and others who have exposed these corrupt practices, we were able to stop the latest omnibus masquerading as a short-term CR. But stopping one bad bill isn’t enough. Congress needs to reject this entire approach to budgeting.
There is hope. President Trump and Republicans in Congress are working to deliver a responsible path forward, one that breaks this endless cycle of CRs and finally reins in the swamp’s constant reckless spending. These leaders are fighting for the future and against a system that prioritizes our bloated bureaucracy over hard-working Americans.
This Christmas, it’s time to end the CR circus once and for all. We must move toward real budgets, crafted through debate, transparency, and accountability. No more Band-Aids and backroom deals. The good news is that American taxpayers were saved from a 1,500-page monstrosity, and instead, we passed legislation to fund the government until March with much-needed disaster relief and aid to our producers.
Next year, we should give the American people the gift they truly deserve: a Congress that governs responsibly, defunds wasteful programs, and puts America First. Anything less isn’t just another swampy Christmas gift—it’s a betrayal of the trust placed in us to lead.
