The Moore You Know August 5th - August 19, 2022

Despite persistent record-high inflation, this month Democrats passed a $740 billion reconciliation package. Democrats had the gall to call this bill the “Inflation Reduction Act,” but this bill was about expanding government power, not making things easier on you. This legislation includes millions in tax breaks for Green New Deal policies and programs that could not survive without heavy taxpayer subsidization. And it includes $80 billion for the Internal Revenue Service, six times its current budget!

This infusion of taxpayer dollars in the IRS is not to help with its backlog or to reform its broken bureaucracy but to hire 87,000 new auditors – almost the capacity of Jordan-Hare Stadium! And don’t buy the spin about this bill coming after the wealthy. According to CBS news, low-income households are five times as likely to be audited by the IRS as everyone else. And don’t forget, the last time Joe Biden was in the White House, the IRS admitted to targeting and harassing conservatives. Now they expect us to trust them with an additional $80 billion for "enforcement"? This is another missed opportunity by the Democrat majority in Washington to use the government to help people. Instead, this Majority is all about helping itself.

Washington Democrats might not have your back, but Republicans have a plan for what we will do for the American people when we take back the House. This month I’ve been barnstorming our district holding town halls to hear directly from Alabamians about your concerns and to outline the GOP plan for next year. We will share four priorities: a strong economy, safety and security, freedom for future generations, and accountability in government.  I’ll be holding more town halls in the month of October, so please check out my events page on my website, https://barrymoore.house.gov/about/events, for updates.

It isn’t just the White House and Congress that are putting partisan politicians above the people. Every single American should be outraged at what happened at Mar-A-Lago. This administration has made clear that it will prioritize targeting its perceived enemies – whether a concerned parent deemed a “domestic terrorist,” a struggling taxpayer, or a political rival – over criminals and lawlessness in our communities and at the border.

When retaking the majority, Republicans must do all we can to hold bureaucrats and officials in this administration accountable. Public servants must protect the interests of the American people they serve, not themselves.

The federal bureaucracy can be daunting for anyone needing help with Social Security benefits, veterans’ services, passports, or any other federal matter. However, my staff and I are here to help however we can. I have staff in my district offices in Wetumpka, Dothan, and Andalusia who can help you with federal casework. In fact, we’ve resolved over 1,600 cases since I took office last year. Please call 334-478-6330 or visit barrymoore.house.gov if we can be of assistance.
