The Moore You Know April 6 - April 21, 2023
Democrat policies are causing a crime spike in blue cities across our country. In San Francisco, total crime rose by eight percent last year. In our Nation’s capital, murder rates have reached a 15-year high, and in New York City, major crimes rose by 22 percent. This week, I joined my colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee in New York City to highlight the stories of victims. We heard from Madeline Brame, a mother whose Army veteran son was murdered – one of his killers had their sentence shortened significantly, and another was freed. Witness Joseph Borgen, the father of a man beaten by an antisemitic assailant, detailed how Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg released the assailant, despite his warning he would gladly commit more crimes against Jewish people if he had the chance. Thanks to DA Bragg’s soft-on-crime policies, these heartbroken families must reckon with the fact that criminals who changed their lives forever are allowed to go free. Congress must stand against policies that put violent criminals back on our streets to harm others once again. *** April 18th was Tax Day, and whether you know it or not, you’ve been working for that day all year. On average, Americans must work almost half the year to have enough income to pay their taxes. Our current tax code is four times as long as the King James Bible, but contains none of the Good News. That’s why I introduced legislation to repeal our 16th Amendment, which authorizes the federal government to collect income taxes on its citizens. Instead of inflating our already-bloated bureaucracy and continuing to punish those who work hard to succeed, Americans deserve a simplified system that works for them. *** Democrats have turned back the clock on women’s rights by encouraging biological men to compete in women’s sports. Allowing biological males to compete in women's sports and be in women's locker rooms is an insult and a danger to women and girls. This week, House Republicans passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which would bar biological men from competing in school athletic programs that are for women and girls. We must not sacrifice the opportunities of women to the whims of a radical, woke agenda. *** If you need help from my office with the VA, IRS, or another federal agency, or if we can help you with a government service like processing a passport request, I hope you will reach out to us.
