45 Days In: Renewing the American Dream
We are now 45 days into President Donald J. Trump’s second term and there is a sense of renewed optimism across the nation. The American people are already seeing and feeling the positive effects of strong policies from President Trump’s administration. The clawing back of the American Dream after the last four years of failure is in full swing.
As I sat on the House Floor listening to the President rattle off a list of accomplishments in the first 45 days of his second term greater in number than some Presidents achieve in their whole term, I was struck by how the room felt. There was an overwhelming sense that America is back.
From the moment he was sworn in, President Trump has talked about the need to secure our border, bring common-sense back to government, restore accountability and transparency, and reverse out-of-control Democrat spending.
His commitment to securing the border and protecting American families was evident from day one. In fact, the first bill signed by the President this term was the Laken Riley Act, which requires the Department of Homeland Security to detain illegal immigrants admitting to, charged with, or convicted of theft-related crimes, assaulting a police officer, or a crime that results in death or serious injury.
In addition to the Laken Riley Act, President Trump has declared a national emergency and deployed the United States Military to the southern border, ended the policy of catch and release, and re-established the very successful Remain in Mexico policy. These actions should be applauded by all law-abiding Americans as they make our communities safer.
To help President Trump in this fight against illegal immigrants breaking our nation’s laws, the House Judiciary Committee recently passed my bill, The Jeremy and Angel Seay and Sergeant Brandon Mendoza Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act of 2025. My bill would make it possible for law enforcement to deport an alien who has been convicted or admits to the offense of driving while impaired.
The Department of Government Efficiency has already proven itself to be effective in rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse within the federal government. DOGE estimates that they have saved roughly $105 billion through contract cancellations, fraud and improper payment deletion, grant cancellations, and workforce reductions.
As we move forward in President Trump’s second term, it is clear that the progress we have seen in just 45 days is only the beginning. Each day he is proving that his vision for a prosperous and secure America is not only achievable but already underway.
From the revitalization of the economy to the restoration of American strength at home and abroad, President Trump is fulfilling the promises he made to the American people.
As we continue to see the results of his leadership, one thing is certain: America is back and stronger than ever before.
