Rep. Barry Moore and Senator Mike Lee send letter to DOJ expressing concern over import policies

March 6, 2025

Washington D.C. - Today, Rep. Barry Moore (AL-01) and Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) sent a letter to the Department of Justice (DOJ) expressing concern over the operations of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Firearms and Explosives Imports Branch (FEIB).

ATF's import policies, full of guidelines that lack clarity and oversight, give FEIB the ability to hide past rulings that lead to misuses of power. These regulations are often applied inconsistently leading to a diminishing ability to import firearms each year.

"For many years, the ATF has violated the constitution, undermining Americans' Second Amendment rights. The rules surrounding the importation of legal firearms are just another example of government weaponization," said Moore. "With President Trump back in the White House, the American people can look forward to seeing their Second Amendment rights protected."

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) said the following:

“For too long, the ATF has slowly constricted the ability of law-abiding Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights, especially when regulating the legal importation of firearms to the United States. Now that Attorney General Bondi and President Trump are returning our government to the Constitution and to the American people, we can look forward to many oppressive regulations being lifted. I am happy to offer these strong suggestions of where to start.”
